Avatar: The Way of Water - Australian Premiere
For the Australian premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water, our challenge was to design an immersive environment under the creative brief: “all things blue and water.” Disney Australia provided only the official trailer as source material. That meant we had no layered artwork, no clean assets, and no production files, just compressed moving footage. From this, we had to reverse-engineer a visually rich environment. We carefully identified still frames that contained the strongest environmental elements, then isolated, rebuilt, and enhanced those assets. Every piece of missing detail had to be matte painted from scratch, ensuring consistency with the world of Pandora while maintaining cinematic quality at scale. This required a combination of frame extraction, digital cleanup, asset recreation, and advanced compositing techniques to deliver seamless, high-resolution visuals suitable for large-format displays. The result was a technically ambitious recreation of Pandora’s aquatic world, built entirely from limited source material — proving that with the right approach, creative and technical problem-solving can overcome even the tightest production constraints.
